Gemma makes M’sia proud in Miss Chinese WA 2011.

    MIRI: Malaysian beauties in Australia have again done Malaysia proud in the Miss Chinese Western Australia (WA) Beauty Pageant.

    Gemma Taylor, 27, a Malaysian Chinese from Ipoh and of Australian mix parentage came second after Eva Li, 20, from China at the Miss Chinese WA 2011 held at Gloucester Park, Australia.
    A lawyer from Perth, standing at 175cm, Gemma was also crowned Miss Popularity as voted by the guests during the Grand Finale and walked home with AUD2000 plus many other prizes.
    Advisor of the pageant and reigning Miss Chinese WA 2010, Marlene Lim said although Gemma only came in second, she was still the pride of Malaysia.
    “I am very happy to have won the first Miss WA in 2010 myself and proud of Gemma too.
    “We, in Australia, including makeup sponsor, Motives – Lesley Wong and another girl Emily, both from Miri, carry the ‘Malaysia Boleh spirit’ wherever we go and hoped that other Malaysians would do likewise,” said Marlene to The Borneo Post when met on Monday night at a triple happiness celebration organised by Michelle Mok, a former public relation officer of Curtin Sarawak.
    Marlene said another contestant and finalist from Malaysia, Sharon Liew, 26, who stands at 178cm, also did equally well.
    Sharon was also a hot favourite and she is a Chiropractor from Kota Kinabalu.
    Meanwhile, the 2011 winner, Eva Li, standing at 172cm, a student of Edith Cowan University walked away with AUD3000 with other prizes and a return ticket to Japan.
    Marlene, a Mirian being the reigning queen for the 2010 Miss Chinese WA was given the honour to crown Eva. The second runner up was Wenjing Sun, also a student from China.
    The other finalists were Shally Winshwe (Myanmar), Jenny Nguyen (Vietnam), Icy Hu (Hong Kong), Chotika Pumyantiya (Thailand), Angel Yu, Angela, Cherrin Chai and Nicole Huang, all from China.
    The second Miss Chinese WA 2011 held on Feb 11 at Gloucester Park as part of Gloucester Park Chinese New Year celebration events attracted over 12,000 audiences.
